Mobile Acceleration Week stopped in New York City this week, on the heels of a highly successful event in San Francisco. The Empire City held its ground against Silicon Valley, featuring 12 startups from the area as well as visitors from Boston, Washington, D.C., and Israel. This is our second stop en route through nine cities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
The group hit the ground running on Monday, with many of the startups having already started their development over the weekend and previous week. One of the startups I spoke with today already has a working prototype after only two days. Way to represent the east coast!
This is our second visit to New York City this year. Several of our alumni from that event have already seen success, with GroupMe having been acquired by Skype this August, and Digital Folio seeing media coverage in the WSJ and USA Today this morning.
As with past events, Mobile Acceleration Week incubates high potential startups to build applications on Windows Phone. The program offers dedicated tech support, assisted coding, 1:1 workshops, UI design consultations, free Windows Phones, AT&T SIM cards, and development tools via BizSpark.
Waggener Edstrom again ran PR training at the event, with all startups set to demo their applications to members of the press on Thursday. Coming out of the program, all applications will be featured on Marketplace and receive special benefits from the Microsoft Advertising team.
Welcome to the program, New York area startups!

Initially, the application was focused on connecting travelers to airport retail by aggregating the first-ever structured database of airport amenities enabling travelers to locate, rate and review airport businesses. GateGuru has since expanded its feature set to include maps, security wait times, itinerary management, and location-based coupons, making it the most comprehensive airport application available. This is just the beginning, however, as over the coming quarter, GateGuru has two significant product releases that will further transform how travelers have access to information on their day-of travel.
